Phase 2 of the Sustainovators Challenge focusses on finding solutions for the problem of too much waste generated by single use packaging for drinks: plastic bottles, cans, drink cartons etc. Now we need your ideas for solutions to solve this problem: Can we eliminate packaging? Can you think of a better refund packaging system for drinks? Do you have a more sustainable solution to this? Please join us and become a Sustainovator!

DESCRIPTION PHASE TWO: SOLUTIONS

Challenge brief

SUSTAINOVATORS is a crowd sourcing competition to create truly sustainable products. Started on 4th of April 2016, the first phase was all about finding sustainable design problems in the products we use everyday. Now phase 2 is on and we are eager to continue with the problem of disposable packaging for drinks identified by Ursula A. and find a solution to it.

Out of the proposed problems of Sustainovator Challenge Phase 1 the Crowd selected the following issue by crowd voting: „There was a time when most drinks were presented in reusable bottles, big and small. Why did we go for the vast amount of disposable drink packages, cans, plastic bottles, tetra pack etc. They create that much waste and environmental damage. Can we not go back to reusable? And do we really need bottled water, if in our countries drinking water from the tap is perfectly fine and healthy? Single use packaging for drinks use vast amounts of resources and create tonnes of waste“          (Ursula A.)

To solve this problem of packaging for drinks we need your help!

How can packaging be redesigned to create a more sustainable product? Can we eliminate packaging? Can you think of a better refund packaging system for drinks? Do you have an alternative solution to this?

Please share your ideas and thoughts on this website with us. Everybody, not only professional designers and students, are invited to engage. So join us and become a Sustainovator!

Please submit your ideas here at innonatives.com by the 6th of May 2016.

For inspiration check the website we have specifically created for this challenge: www.sustainovators.com

The final phase in the challenge will then be voting on which are the most meaningful solutions: Everyone can vote on the innonatives platform for the best solution. Voting will take place from 6th to 9th of May.

Why should you become involved?

You could become famous! You could be the person that sparked a new movement in sustainable design. Your solution could become an actual product, just like the Miito Kettle that gained global media attention and will change the way we get our cup of tea. The solution will be published on our website. People all over the world will be able to see it. In addition there is the option to use the innonatives crowd funding module to create a budget for implementation.

It is important to know, that this challenge follows the innonatives creative common license. That means, all contributions in this challenge are open to the public, so there is no copyright protection possible. However, if anyone uses your idea and develops it further, the original inventor ALWAYS has to be mentioned as such. Anyone, who commercializes the idea, will have to create a contract with the original inventor and will have to pay him/her for the rights to use the idea commercially.
We are excited to do this with you! Please join us and help to make the world a better place.

DESCRIPTION PHASE ONE: IDEAS (CLOSED)

SUSTAINOVATORS is a crowd sourcing competition to create truly sustainable products. Starting on 4th of April 2016, the first phase is all about finding sustainable design problems in the products we use everyday.
Thus we are looking for your experiences as a user. Think of products you found hard to use in a sustainable way. What was the problem?

For inspiration check the website we have specifically created for this challenge: www.sustainovators.com.

PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR IDEAS HERE AT INNONATIVES.COM BY THE 15TH OF APRIL 2016.

The next phase in the challenge is voting on which are the most meaningful problems: Everyone can vote on the innonatives platform for the best ideas. Voting will take place from 15th to 18th of April.

Once we have identifired the most meaningful design problems, we will take them forward into the next phase of the competition. This phase is about developing ideas on how to solve the selected design problems. Everybody, not only professional designers and students, are invited to join in here too. We need your ideas on how to improve the products to enable and encourage more sustainable user behavior. Here it is especially fascinating when design professionals and students work together with regular users to inspire each other. The innonatives platform encourages this.

Why should you become involved?

You could become famous! You could be the person that sparked a new movement in sustainable design. Your idea could become an actual product, just like the Miito Kettle that gained global media attention and will change the way we get our cup of tea.

But first of all, if your idea is chosen in the final voting to select the best solutions, it will be published on our website. People all over the world will be able to see it and we will try to find the right partners to make your idea become reality.
