Usage of small 3D parts contributes to a better material utilization
The LED-desk lamp Natrix showcases at its best how future technologies impact on lighting design. Its bionic support arm features high flexibility and surprising handling capabilities.
The plastic parts of this lamp are produced by lasersintering - a high end 3D printing process. The small parts fit into free available space of bigger prototyping parts and contribute this way to a better material utilization. Normally a large amount of the sinter powder will be trashed.
This way Natrix unifies future technology, sustainability and lighting design.
Its development is a cooperation between purmundus (a brand of Cirp GmbH) and iulite GmbH, Germany.
Natrix has been designed by Hans Nopper and Thomas Lueck.
Natrix is already available in selected retail stores in Germany.

Die LED-Leuchte Natrix besitzt einen bionisch inspirierten Tragarm, der durch hohe Flexibilität und große Benutzerfreundlichkeit besticht. Der Arm der Natrix läßt sich in beliebigen Kurven verstellen und unterscheidet sich damit radikal von bekannten, mehrgelenkigen Lese- und Schreibtischleuchten.
Die Wirbel der Natrix sind in einem hochwertigen 3D-Druck Verfahren gefertigt. Die Kleinteile passen in den frei verfügbaren Bauraum von größeren Prototypenteilen und tragen so zu einer besseren Materialausnutzung bei. Das Sinterpulver muss normalerweise zum Grossteil nach dem Bauprozess entsorgt werden.
Damit vereint Natrix auf besondere Art und Weise Zukunftstechnologie, Nachhaltigkeit und Lichtdesign.
Natrix entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit der Marke Purmundus (Cirp GmbH).

Great Project, thanks for posting. So the biomimicry model you were looking at is the backbone (Rückrat) of animals, right? Sustainability is there because of material saving, energy saving through LED and production on demand? Is it already for sale and where? Could you provide a little more information on that? thank you very much in advance!
Yes - correct. The lamp is available in selected retail stores in Germany and Suisse - we did not list the lamp online so far.
