SHORT DESCRIPTION ampUP Radio Is a platform for networking and empowering youth through a mobile radio vehicle. ShareRadio and local bike shops use recycled aluminum and create ampUP Quads, as well as both services rendered by the product. First, a spread-the-word platform that connects venues and events with young attendees, and secondly, an open source tool for young entrepreneurs to use AmpUp as a key resource in their projects.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The ampUP Radio Quad is a pedal-driven, human-powered vehicle with a recycled aluminum exo-skeleton that can be fabricated by local bicycle shops.

It includes a front receptacle for collecting aluminum scrap at events, and doubles as a container or trunk for other cargo. It has 3 solar panels and a photovoltaic system, axle-mounted generator & a tray-style drawer which includes a laptop, sound mixer, two speakers and microphone. Its rugged design allows it to be driven on diverse terrain for both urban and outdoor music festivals & events.

LIFE CYCLE DESIGN STRATEGIES DESCRIPTION:

While designing the Quad, a number of strategies have been adopted: Recycled aluminum is a good choice for the exo-skeleton, avoiding the need to fabricate body panels out of fiberglass or wood, elevating both vehicle weight and carbon footprint impact.

The fabrication of the exo-skeleton can be made locally by bicycle shops and manufacturers, strengthening local economy, as well as by any person with competent fabricating skills as a DIY project.

This same vehicle can be used for more than just mobile radio, the tray-style drawer in the back, made out of either aluminum or recycled wood or plastic can be used for food, mail or other type of deliveries as well, giving the Quad an upcycle potential when no longer in use for mobile radio.

When the vehicle has finally reached the end of its life, it is easily disassembled and the exo-skeleton can again be recycled to use the aluminum for new products, while other components can be also upcycled to new uses.

PRODUCT-SERVICE SYSTEM:

AmpUp’s PSSD is made up of two separate services from the same product:

1.- People, galleries, museums, schools, institutes and other stakeholders can contact ShareRadio and use an AmpUp Quad or Quads to spread the word about a specific event or project, using it as a meeting point for youth, which connects them with a cultural, educational, entrepreneurial and other ecosystems. The day of the event ShareRadio will show up with a Quad or Quads and the event host can use AmpUp as a catalyzer to engage with the attendees, thus empowering youth by making them a part of projects and events otherwise less inclusive to a young public.

2.- Promoting the idea of Open Design and open source creation, the blueprints and fabrication guides and manuals for an AmpUp Quad can be found online through the Innonatives platform or other form of media. This way, young entrepreneurs who have a business idea involving mobility can use the AmpUp Quad as a vehicle and platform to jump-start their venture, for example food delivery or courier services, as well as networking with local fabricators and contributing to their community’s economy while developing their entrepreneurial project.

AmpUp is a solution not only to ShareRadio’s challenge, but also a tool which can have a high positive impact on the city’s youth. It is a sustainable and and economically responsible idea, which innovates on a number of levels and has the potential to be replicated and scaled-up in other parts of the World.
