Thinking about the challenge of a green christmas, the question about personal lifestyle came up: a change in the environment requires to make a change oneself, in order to make a difference in daily life in terms of sustainability. And the next chance to start would be the New Year's resolutions. A personal change has the potential to inspire others to make a change, too. By talking to others, people turned out to be very interested in the idea to rethink their lifestyle in the frame of New Year's resolutions and to create new "sustainable habbits" respectively to drop old habbits. In the broadest sense but with positive impact on personal daily life, this would be for instance: visit a cooking class to eat better, going to work by having fun with the new E-bike, feel better by stopping smoking but starting yoga, ... But how to keep up the New Year's resolutions? I am not a designer, but the idea would be to develop a calendar or diary, maybe in a similar manner such as calendars for personal development. This would be a beautiful gift that motivates keeping up the respective resolutions one made for the New Year. It would be possible to create "events" according to seasonal topics that motivate to go on.

  • According to Gandhi's "Be the change you want to see in the world", the idea is to make a predefined, concrete personal change in daily life towards a more sustainable lifestyle,to cause a change in the world.
  • A "Be the change"-New Year's Resolution Calendar motivates to individual personal development towards a more sustainable lifestyle during a certain timeframe.
  • It combines the individual definition of New Year's resolutions with an annual calendar or diary.
  • Desgin: fancy, aesthetic, materials meeting sustainable criteria, practical
  • It might connect personal development "milestones" (according to the respective resolution goals) with seasonal events or holidays, lifestyle related topics like cooking or sport activities according to the seasons etc. with emphasis on sustainable way of realisation.
  • It might combine an additional gift such as a gift coupon for organic beauty treatment / ticket of ten for swimming, yoga, .../organic restaurant / organic clothing or shopping
  • Important is to promote the idea that a sustainable lifestyle makes fun and joy that sustainability is a source of personal creativity.

Constantina, Nice idea! Some feedback I have after reading includes: studies have shown it takes about 66 days of consecutive behavior to form new habits it's easier to from a new habit if you attach it to an already-existing habit an effective method for sustaining a habit is to have an accountability buddy- someone who makes sure you stick with it incorporating a brainstorming activity in the process might help people come up with more/better resolutions Hope this helps you refine your idea. Happy new year! -Alex

Hi Alex, happy new year! Thank you for your comment! I agree with your ideas::) I also heard about 3 months the brain would need to implement changes in the behavior. That's why it would be great to get something that helps to keep on in long-term. The brainstorming part is a beautiful idea to ad! Hm... since I experiment with the whole idea (without having a calendar yet::)), in fact, I did a kind of brainstorming by talking to others before I made my resolutions... would be good to include these aspects into the further creation of this idea. Let's think about the way, how it would work::) Kind regards Constantina
