A transportation concept for suburban and rural areas, based on shared, lightweight autonomous vehicles, running on their own low-cost infrastructure: Eliminating interaction with conventional cars drastically increases safety and energy efficiency and reduces technological complexity. An own, dedicated route network (at least outside built-up areas) becomes feasible when using self-driving cabin motorcycles, which are able to run on a very narrow lane and have low axle load and clearance height. In the effect, the concept offers much less ecological footprint, but also less costs than individually owned autonomous cars of conventional size and weight.
