Idea overview
I - larger fuel product portfolio and related information
A strong improvement comes by the dissemination of correct information and practices, creating a basis to choose correctly whether and how to warm up with wood. Always in a long-term period, a turning point may come from the correct training of young people, citizens and wood users in the future, on these issues. Research and specialist conferences are not enough or not well biased if the knowledge is not transferred at least in its rudiments to future potential users of biomass applian ... more
F - Improve the quality of the wood used whatever the supply chain
- Develop fuel brands and certifications to increase the share of wood sold through a quality trade channel. - Help wood producers, especially small producers, to develop while promoting quality wood. - Develop the affouage (provision of plots of wood) while communicating and forcing users towards good practices and good equipment. - Develop logistic platforms for drying/shredding for professionals and individuals (for non-commercial purposes) by making dedicated spaces a ... more
F - Certification and branding of wood producers
Brands/certifications should be communicated to attract more wood producers in these quality approaches (good practices). We must develop the aids available to producers in order to improve their equipment (drying platform, shed, etc.). Firewood producers have very low margins. European calls for projects exist but they are only accessible to PEFC certified producers (sustainable management) whereas this certification costs without being able to amortize the cost by passing it on to the price of ... more
AT - User information and fuel quality
There is a need for information on the correct user behaviour. By means of campaigns which are to involve chimney sweeps as knowledge mediators, users are taught how to handle their system, how to heat it up properly, etc. The chimney sweeps should be paid to hold training courses for private users. As far as fuel quality is concerned, clear regulations and standardisation of requirements are required. For example, the sale of fuels with a moisture content of more than 25% could be prohibited. The use of pel ... more
AT - Training courses for manually loaded stoves
In the case of manually-loaded stoves, a training course would have to be sold along with the stoves to ensure that they are used properly. Projects such as "Clean Air" can make a valuable contribution to raising awareness and educating the population in the correct handling of biomass combustion systems. Such projects should be rolled out on a large scale and require a specific contact person in the respective region. With the help of mobile trailers, people are made aware of what they need to co ... more
